Indian Maritime University:
The Indian Maritime University (IMU), a teaching-cum-affiliating University under the aegis of the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, established through an Act of Parliament in 2008 as a Central University, plays a key role in the development of trained human resource for the maritime sector in India.
IMU is headquartered at Chennai and has regional campuses at Chennai, Mumbai Port, Navi Mumbai, Kolkata, Kochi and Visakhapatnam. It also encompasses under its fold 18 private Maritime Training Institutes/Colleges which are affiliated to IMU. IMU is committed to providing quality maritime education, training and research that are responsive to industry needs.
Ministry of Shipping has directed IMU to conduct the Common Entrance Test on all India basis for admissions of students to the Programmes offered by IMU and its Affiliated Institutes along with the Pre-Sea Programmes of DGS approved MTIs from the academic year 2020-21 onwards. Due to Covid-19 pandemic, IMU is planning to issue rank certificates based on the normalization method in lieu of conducting a Common Entrance Test for admissions of students of IMU and its Affiliated Institutes along with DGS approved MTIs for the academic year 2020-21.
